Who runs this site
Vouched for Crew is run by Christopher Hodge, a self-employed VFX artist trading as FGVFX, based in the UK. I'm responsible for the personal information on this site. Contact me about anything on this page at enquiries@fgvfx.com.
What I collect
- When you sign in: your name, email address and profile picture link, from LinkedIn or Google, or just your email if you use an emailed link.
- Your profile: what you choose to fill in. Your name, main role and level, other skills, where you're based, when you started in the industry, links (LinkedIn, IMDb, company website), work details (relocation, right to work, driving licence and vehicle, how you work, your remote setup), memberships, availability, and whether you hire crew.
- Backup email: if you add one, it's used only to confirm it and to recover your account if you lose your main email.
- Your contact details: the email and phone number you add, and who you've chosen can see each one.
- Availability: the days you mark as booked, and who you've chosen can see your calendar. If you connect your Google, Outlook or Apple calendar, the site reads its private link a few times a day to work out which days you're busy, and keeps only those dates. Event names, places and notes are never stored or shown. Disconnecting removes the link and the synced dates.
- Recommendations: the ones you write (stars, words, the role and a vague description of the show) and your role at the time.
- Contact button: a record that you messaged someone and when. I don't keep the message itself. It's passed straight on by email.
- Feedback: your answers to the feedback form, and your email only if you choose to leave it. Only the person who runs the site sees them. Feedback is deleted after 12 months.
- Technical: your sign-in is kept in your browser's storage so you stay signed in. The site uses no advertising cookies, analytics or tracking.
Who can see what
- Nothing is public. Only signed-in members can see the directory and profiles.
- If you choose not to be listed, other members can't find or see your profile.
- Your email and phone are shown only to the people you choose: nobody, recruiters and senior crew, or all members. Anyone using the Contact button gets their message to you without seeing your address. You see theirs, and they only see yours if you reply.
- Members see the role of the person who wrote a recommendation, never their name. I (the site admin) can see who wrote each one, so I can deal with misuse.
Why I use it
To run the service you signed up for: a members-only list where crew recommend each other and hirers can find and contact them. Under UK data protection law, my reasons are that it's needed to provide the service you asked to join, and my legitimate interest in keeping the site trustworthy and free of spam and fake accounts. I never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
A few services handle information on my behalf, only so the site works:
- Supabase: stores the database and handles sign-in (hosted in Europe).
- Cloudflare: hosts the website. Like any web host, it may keep short-term technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
- Resend: sends the site's emails (sign-in links and Contact messages).
- LinkedIn and Google: if you sign in with them, they confirm who you are. They share your name, email and profile picture with this site and nothing else.
- Google Workspace: my business email, if you write to me.
Some of these companies may store data outside the UK. Where they do, they use the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
How long I keep it
- Your account stays while you use it. If you haven't signed in for 11 months, you'll get an email asking whether to keep or delete it. Keep it, and it stays for another 12 months. If there's no reply within a month, the account and everything you added, including recommendations you wrote, is deleted.
- You can ask for your account to be deleted at any time. When you do, you can choose to delete everything, or to leave the recommendations you wrote in place with no name attached.
- Records of Contact messages (who and when) are deleted after 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask at any time to see the information I hold about you, correct it, get a copy, or have it deleted, or object to how I use it. Email enquiries@fgvfx.com and I'll reply within one month. You can edit or hide your profile yourself at any time from "My profile".
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. I'd appreciate the chance to put it right first, though.
Who it's for
This site is for people aged 16 and over who work in, or are starting out in, the film and TV industry, including school leavers and apprentices.
Changes
If this notice changes, I'll update it here and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, I'll email members.
